Our lives are busy.   Well, that is an understatement if I’ve ever written one.   Our lives are extremely and excruciatingly busy!  Now that’s more like it.  There is too much to do.  We work to make mortgage or rent payments.  We raise our children so they become contributing, not to mention loving, members of society.

We go to church to stay connected to God and to those who are like-minded. We take care of
aging parents and disabled siblings.   We volunteer for the PTA and sit on various boards so we can make a change in our communities.  This list goes on and on and is exhaustive in many of our lives and then we top it all off with the fact that we live in busy places, with more industry and technology.  There is too much noise, too much pollution, and too much stimulation.  Our senses are bombarded; and all at once, it seems.   Is there any wonder why we find it hard to sit still?

How can we be still before the Lord if we have never had a chance to practice stillness?  There are many benefits to stillness and the primary one is to find God.  Our need to find God will allow us a space, even in the hustle and bustle of life, but we must work at it and remember the world is against us in this endeavor.

Here are a few simple steps to finding the "stillness" we so desperately need:

1.  Carve out just 15 minutes each day to commit to silence.

2.  The 15 minutes should be in a place with very few people.

3.  The place does not need to be a quiet place but you must be quiet.

4.  If you cannot find a quiet place spend the 15 minutes listening to the sounds around you.  Draw your energy from your environment.  Listen to the birds, the cars honking their horns, people talking, dogs barking, wind blowing and the many sounds that surround you.

5.  Breath deeply and think of your favorite scripture, saying or affirmation while you listen.

6.  Sit in silence and receive what God has to offer you in these moments.

7.  End your 15 minutes with a brief prayer of gratitude for finding an extra 15 minutes to be with God.

May you enjoy many more moments of filling and blessings from God!

Continued Blessings,
